Born in Narberth, West Wales, Julia formed her first band in school aged 14 when her love affair with music first began to interfere with her sports commitments. A few years later she moved to study in Cardiff gaining an Honours degree in Sport Science and then shortly afterwards a Masters degree in Sport Science at Brunel University in London. Her obsession with music continued as she published research investigating the effects of music on exercise performance which was featured on BBC 1 television.
Still performing in bands and writing her own material Julia started working with the British Olympic swimming squads specialising in psychology, self-confidence, motivation, and goal-setting. Her background in Sport Science and competitive nature gave a good grounding for the challenges she would later face within the music industry. Her work with the Olympic training programme included using music as a psychological motivator.
An increased interest in the business side of her work eventually led her away from Sport Science and back to University to study for an MBA degree. Work for the European Commission during this degree ultimately contributed to published research in the area of innovation and entrepreneurism. After graduating Julia was offered a position within a German commercial bank in London, with a salary that began to enable her to build her own recording studio at home in Kent.
Julia Jones is no ordinary singer-songwriter. A successful academic and ex-City banker with three degrees and published research, she has somehow since the age of 14 also managed to continually fit her love of music and performance around her professional career. Regularly performing and promoting events Julia continued to write and record her own songs at home. After the sudden death of her father she finally decided to turn the tables, quitting her job to follow her passion and make music her career.
Julia sold her house, cars, and speedboat, and re-located to New York intent on recording her own material and developing a high-profile event that would help the promotion of UK music in the difficult American market. Since that move in 2003 Julia has reached an audience of millions through her major annual promotional event for British music in America called The BritBus Tour. She is also finally releasing an album of her own work which at last demonstrates her talent as a singer-songwriter. The album entitled ‘Notes From The Road’ was written largely while touring America and reflects the struggles and triumphs of the last 4 years since leaving behind her City career and the luxury of its financial security.
